Nearly 30 years of research and experience

The year was 1964.  The roofing industry had been stagnant for several decades.  The challenge was to improve the performance characteristics of roofing asphalt.  While searching for chemicals to improve properties of asphalt, I met Dr. Gorgati, an Italian chemist, who recently invented a new roofing material, the APP modified- bitumen roofing membrane.  We immediately began manufacturing and marketing the product throughout Asia.  Our facility was, in fact, only the second modified- bitumen manufacturing facility in the world.

The invention of APP-modified membranes was certainly a giant step forward and a great improvement over conventional BUR systems.  However, the product had a few drawbacks.  First and foremost was its incompatibility with mopping asphalt; the second was APP’s non-elastomeric physical properties that made the product inflexible at low temperatures.  Therefore, the next stage of bitumen modification was the introduction and incorporation of SBS into asphalt.  SBS membranes remain elastic at low temperatures and are compatible with mopping asphalt.  The resulting product is far superior to its predecessors, BUR and APP-modified asphalt.

Our History

MBTechnology was founded in 1983.  The company specializes in manufacturing SBS-modified asphalt (bitumen) roofing membranes for residential and commercial application.  The basic technology was developed in Europe and is one of the fastest-growing segments of both the commercial and residential roofing markets.

We at MBTechnology strive to continuously improve our products.  We have pioneered major innovations in the field of modified asphalt, and this commitment to research and development will never cease.  Perhaps this is the reason we have acquired an international reputation for experience and excellence.

MBTechnology is headquartered in Fresno, California.   Our manufacturing facility is located in Fresno as well.  Being located less than 500 miles from projects in California, Las Vegas, and Reno, Nevada, qualifies the company for Leed credit.  The production facility occupies 64,000 sq. ft. of building on five acres of land.
